How much auto insurance do I need?
How much coverage you have for your vehicle depends on a few factors: the state you live in, how you paid for the vehicle and any personal concerns.
In Minnesota and Wisconsin, just like every other state, drivers must at least have basic liability coverage to protect the public from damage that is caused by any driver during an accident. If a car is financed, collision insurance is also required to protect the investment of the bank or the lender if there is an accident, because the car will be repaired.
Some drivers choose to purchase comprehensive and emergency assistance insurance. These are optional types of coverage that can protect against theft and vandalism or an emergency where the vehicle needs to be towed.
